SURFACE PREPARATION

Concrete Surfaces

New Painting

  • All surfaces must be clean, dry, free from dust, dirt, chalk, laitance, efflorescence, rust, grease, oil, and all other foreign materials.
  • Allow new concrete to cure and dry completely for at least 28 days with a moisture content of less than 15% and a Ph level below 10.
  • To neutralize and remove efflorescence, treat surfaces with Davies DV-100-X Concrete Neutralizer diluted with 16 parts water to 1 part DV-100-X. Apply by brush or mop to wet surface thoroughly and dry overnight. Rinse with water and dry.
  • When applying Rendering Paste or Skimcoat for rough surfaces, concrete may be cured for only 7-14 days. Use MONDO SK-1 Skimcoat Superfine White Powder or MONDO SK-2 Rendering Paste.

Repainting

  • Remove mold and mildew growth with Davies DV-500-X Mildewcide Wash Solution. Rinse with water, dry and immediately apply the recommended paint system to prevent regrowth of mold and mildew.
  • For surfaces that exhibit severe chalk, apply one coat of Davies DV-5-530 Liquid Tile Penetrating Sealer or Davies DV- 555 Concrete Clear Sealer.
  • Repair uneven surfaces with Davies DV-5000 Concrete Putty or Davies DV-5-900 Liquid Tile Cast.

PAINTING SYSTEM

Concrete Surfaces

Step 1 - Apply one(1) coat of WA-DCP Wall Art Decoprime Undercoat Primer using a roller. Let dry for 8 hours.
Step 2 - Apply one(1) coat of Wall Art Classico by spalter brush with casual strokes that overlap or in a diagonal movement until the desired effect is reached.
Step 3 - Quickly work on areas of 30 sq.cm at a time with consistently-angled strokes, feathering and overlapping edges so that brush restarts are not visible. Always finish the wall without interruptions. On the edges, apply a straight and continuous stroke. Let dry for at least 8 hours.
Step 4 - Polish the surface with a Wall Art Stainless Steel Trowel for the texture to emerge. This method darkens the textured brush strokes, giving the surface a tone-on-tone contrast effect. Regulate the force and pressure to avoid scratching or damaging the textured surface.
